The Beautiful Repair: Mending in art and fashion explores how clothes communicate our identity and values. The Copenhagen Contemporary gallery showcases the fusion of sustainability, creativity, craft, and self-expression.
The location – Refshaleøen – is itself recently “recycled”. The island was dominated by shipbuilders Burmeister & Wain until 25 years ago. Start-ups have revived the site with with a new lease of life.
The aesthetics of mending is a rising trend in the world of art and fashion. Second-hand materials and sophisticated mending techniques are being used by a new generation of artists and designers to create valuable narratives and ornamentation, giving clothes a new lease on life and a fertile ground for creative expression.
The exhibition features works by a host of artists and fashion designers: Zadie Xa, Rasmus Myrup, Elina Heilanen, Minna Palmqvist, Lee Mingwei, Marie Sloth Rousing & Anna Clarisse Holck Wæhrens, Pia Camil, Idaliina Friman, Tenant of Culture, ALL-IN, Ella Morris, Kristine Sehested-Blad, Beatrice Stenmark, Rottingdean Bazaar, Holly Blakey and Chopova Lowena.
The Beautiful Repair runs until September 3 at Refshalevej 173A, 1432 Copenhagen Central.
