Danish wind giant, Ørsted, had finalised its decision to build the world’s largest offshore wind farm in Great Britain, Hornsea 3.
All of the key contracts are in place, the company reports, including an agreement with Siemens Gamesa for a number of their wind turbines, which have a capacity of 14MW.

The Hornsea farms are in the North Sea. Hornsea 3 will be located 160 kilometers off the coast in Yorkshire, and supply power to over 3.3 million UK households, with a capacity of 2.9GW.
When the offshore wind farm starts producing power, Ørsted’s Hornsea 1, 2 and 3 will have a total capacity of more than 5GW, making it the world’s largest commissioned offshore wind area. Energy transmission will be from both sea and land.
When the park is fully operational, Ørsted then sells off the transmission facilities. After that, Ørsted has the contract for the offshore wind farm itself for 15 years.
The British Ministry of Business and Energy awarded Denmark’s Ørsted a contract to build the Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm in July last year. The Hornsea area also includes Ørsted’s Hornsea 4 project, which can have a capacity of up to 2.6 gigawatts. Earlier this year, the company was granted regulatory approval to build Hornsea 4 by the UK government.
Ørsted operates 12 offshore wind farms in Great Britain.
