The Sea’s the limit? Germany sees a horizon for offshore Wind Power capacity

The German offshore wind power industry is calling for support from policymakers to achieve ambitious expansion goals and safeguard the energy transition.

Stefan Thimm, Managing Director of Germany’s Federal Offshore Wind Energy Association (BWO; Bundesverbands Windenergie Offshore), stated, ‘We are reaching limits with existing resources.’ European political goals are highly ambitious, and Europe is facing global competition. The EU, especially Germany, aims to turn the seas into ‘Europe’s power plant.’ Offshore wind power is set to play a key role in global electricity generation, sparking a worldwide competition for the same resources and production capacities.
