Royal Unibrew, a major brewery, has opened Denmark’s largest privately-owned solar park.
The park spans 14 hectares and is part of Royal Unibrew’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality in scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025. The solar panels will generate electricity to cover 40% of the brewery’s annual energy consumption in Faxe, South Zealand. The surplus energy will be sold back to the grid during sunny days, with the brewery purchasing electricity from the grid when needed. The CEO of Royal Unibrew expressed pride in the park’s inauguration but highlighted the need for additional solutions, such as energy storage, to fully utilize the generated power. The company continues to invest in energy optimization initiatives and has other sustainable projects planned, including a biogas plant in Finland and additional solar panels in Italy, Finland, and the Baltic states.
